Land Acknowledgement
Thompson Rivers University (TRU) campuses are situated on the traditional lands of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (Kamloops) and the T’exelc (Williams Lake) within Secwepemcúl’ecw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc. The rich tapestry of this land also encompasses the territories of the St’át’imc, Nlaka’pamux, Tŝilhqot’in, Nuxalk, and Dakelh. Recognizing the deep histories and ongoing presence of these Indigenous peoples, we express gratitude for the wisdom held by this land. TRU is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment, valuing education as a shared journey. The TRU Open Press, inspired by collaborative learning on this land, upholds open access principles, and freely accessible education for all.

Kukstsélp. Thank you.
This book is the result of a collective effort, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who played a role in bringing it to life. Contributors are recognized within the chapters where their work appears, and their efforts have been essential to the development of this resource.
The heart of this project lies in a commitment to equity in education—removing financial obstacles and expanding access through high-quality, openly available materials. I’m especially thankful to the exceptional team at TRU Open Press. Their professionalism, passion, and steady support were instrumental throughout this journey.
I also wish to thank Thompson Rivers University for backing this initiative as part of my Winter 2025 sabbatical. Their enduring support for Open Educational Resources and their encouragement of my work in this area have made a real difference.
To my student partners—thank you. Your thoughtful feedback, creativity, and engagement helped shape both the content and direction of this book. Your voices and insights have left a lasting impact.
And to all the students I’ve had the privilege to learn with—those from previous years, those currently in my classroom, and those yet to come—thank you. Your curiosity, challenges, and insights continue to shape my teaching and inspire my work. This book is for you.
